New online....

The Wagga African Association (WAFRICA) Incorporated is the umbrella community organisation for all African communities living in Wagga Wagga and other interest groups. The Association is non-profit and apolitical aimed at promoting unity, solidarity; friendship, mutual understanding and co-operation amongst Africans and Australians, particularly so that the Africans can integrate into the Australian society as productive residents.

Establishment….

•WAFRICA came into being in 2007 in response to community concerns about cultural relations between the residents of Wagga and the local African community.

•WAFRICA acts as a bridge between the African community members and the rest of Wagga.

•It now does much more than respond to racism. It initiates projects that contribute directly to the welfare of the broader community, such as the recent fund-raising concert for the local hospital.

•These events not only promote cross-cultural harmony, raise awareness, understanding and dialogue but provide a means for the African community to say "thank you" to the Wagga community for the acceptance and hospitality they have experienced.

•WAFRICA participates in community building activities, fundraising for local disasters, performances, community BBQs and more.

•WAFRICA is frequently consulted by the local council, media, the multicultural council and other organisations that deliver support services to refugees and recently arrived migrants.

WAFRICA has established formal networks with local service providers, the media and Wagga City Council and is now a firm part of the Wagga community.
